STREET FOOTBALL ASIA | Talks Begin!
It's no secret that Street Football has been European centric since it's inception. Considering the modern form of the sport was founded in the European continent, this makes sense. However the sport has reached the stage where roots need to spread across the world in an effort to lessen the European centric nature of the sport. Takashi Hatanaka and Tomislav Bazdaric from Street Football Japan and Street Football Australia have met up in Asakusa, Tokyo Japan to begin talks on how Asian Street Football Federation can be run, and what such an endevour would entail.
THE OUTCOME
The outlook is positive from the start. Both parties are interested in pursuing setting up a federation for the Asian region, the next stages would be figuring how this would all work within the global governing body. This will be a long term project which will not happen overnight, time and work will be put into building the vision to make it a reality. This federation has been long overdue and is an essential step in the growth of Street Football in the Asian region.
SIDE NOTE
As Australia is not part of the Asian continent it may initially be confusing as to why they'd be involved in Asia. The reality is that apart from a very small and early stage presence in New Zealand, Australia's matured Street Football scene has no shared interest from surrounding countries, with most Oceanic countries having no interest in the sport of Street Football. As a result it only makes sense for Australia and at a latter stage New Zealand to join in Asia's federation, contributing to both the Asian region and their own respective Street Football scenes.
